Struggles inside the queer community and related struggles in a larger Essay
Struggles inside the queer community and related struggles in a larger society - Essay Example This "misunderstanding ourselves" is necessary to really know what we think of ourselves rather assuming what we are compelled to think by the community. This urge to know ourselves lead to struggle within and resultantly in the community we are living in. The feeling of being "furthest from oneself" leads a person to new grounds which are taboo for the community. Homosexuality is one of such grounds. "Attitudes toward homosexuality are generally in flux, partially as a result of increased political activism and efforts by homosexuals to be seen not as aberrant personalities but as differing from "normal" individuals only in their sexual orientation." (Encyclopedia Britanica, 2007) Still the comfort with which queers would like to move in most of the societies is a far fetched dream. When a queer is subjected to opposition from the community he balks under the pressure and either forfeit his inner desires or tailor them accordingly. Myers compare this with Foucault's concept of reverse discourse and says "the regulation of homosexuality has provoked unanticipated responses and counter representations, unforeseen pictures of difference and self conscious staging of deviance" (Myer 10) Therefore, queers are depicted as someone "different" and due to such an identity most of them tried to deviate from their inner call and join back in the main stream of community.

Norms are Informal Rules in Society Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Norms are Informal Rules in Society - Essay Example The first example is where an individual of high status quo decides to use his bicycle to travel to work despite having a vehicle and the availability of public means of transport, the individual will have behaved against the norms of the society as depicted by the roles and code of behavior associated with his rank and status in the society. The sanctions that the society will impose on such an individual will include the decline in respect and status attached to the individual by his work mates and society. His workmates who have lower prestige jobs in the work place may doubt the individuals capability to be in such a position and this might lead to the loss of the job by the individual because the individual does not act according to the roles attached to him and also he does behave according to the societies norms to maintain his status and prestige according to the role he or she plays in the society. The other example is when an individual may decide to wear two different types or make of shoes, one make on the left foot and the other on the right, those who notice may decide that this is a mere joke but the society may decide to sanction you because of breaking the social norms associated with wearing shoes by trying to embarrass yo

Apple Company Recommendation Proposal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Apple Company Recommendation Proposal - Essay Example The internal analysis of the company has made it evident that the principal reason behind their declining market share is lack of innovation. Apple is best known for innovative and breakthrough products, but since the last couple of years the company is failing to satisfy customer expectations. On the contrary, Samsung has been able to secure the elite position in the smart phone segment through innovative design and aggressive marketing strategy. Despite creating hype, the latest offering from Apple, iphone 5, failed miserably in the market. Hence, the only solution for Apple is to come up with a new strategy that supports expansion of the business operations and fosters innovation. Discussion Reports suggest that currently Samsung holds 47% of the market share in the smart phone category and Apple holds 38%. However, the scenario was completely different in the last year. Apple was the market leader with 73% share, while Samsung and other companies embraced remaining 27% share. Fig ure 1 ââ¬â Smart phone market Share Comparison of 2012 and 2013. The drastic shift in the market share figures of Apple makes it obvious that ââ¬Å"something went wrongâ⬠for the company. A number of studies shed light on the fact that lack of innovation is the major cause of their failure. Moreover, the smart phone product line of Apple has also remained unchanged since its launch in 2006. The new versions were launched only with some add-on features and applications. However, to satisfy the dynamic needs of customers as well as tap new customer segments, it is necessary to offer enhanced and trendy products. The classic example of Nokiaââ¬â¢s failure in the market due to the lack of innovation clearly substantiates the current state of Apple. ... In the meantime, it should be also noted that the operating system of the phones bundled by Apple is also getting outdated. A recent consumer study on smart phone OS preferences, has reflected that consumers are finding iOS to be stale while the latest buzz, Android to be much more user friendly and exciting. Since the first release of iPhone, it really has not come through leaps and bounds. On the other hand, the competitors of Apple were capable in delivering high quality and pioneering products at a cheaper cost (Tapscape, 2013). Apple has positioned itself as a luxury brand and thus targets high end customers. The primary target segment of the company is customers who are willing to pay a higher price for better experience and prefers using technically upgraded and updated products. As a result of that, price reduction will seriously hamper the Appleââ¬â¢s positioning strategy. Therefore, the only way to make global expansion and regain the lost market, the company needs to co me up with something inventive and modern. Methodology and Analysis In order to find a solution to the problem, the study has considered collection of data from both primary and secondary sources. Secondary data were mostly collected from authentic electronic sources and journal articles. On the other hand, the primary data was collected directly from the consumers of high end mobile phones. According to Treloar (1999), product innovation involves coming up with something new or sufficiently different (p.253). Likewise, Linder (2006) and Holmquist (2012) believe that innovation plays a crucial role in driving profitable growth. The author further mentioned strong research and development is one of the key

Contextually, several economists have believed that rising price of food and energy has influenced the demand of real-estate in a negative manner (1-49). On the other hand, Madigan claimed that rising prices of medical services, education and communication services have indirectly affected the demand of the real-estate in the US marketplace (Madigan, ââ¬Å"Why Rising Rents Havenââ¬â¢t Pumped Up Inflationâ⬠). Ho wever, Keely, Ark, Levanon, and Burbank arguably claimed that the rental demand on the US market has dramatically increased in the last few years (1-49). In this regard, it can be asserted that financial crisis and high rate of interest as well as the mortgage burden has affected the demand of the household buyers. On the contrary, it has influenced the tendency of renting residential, which has caused high inflation in the domestic market place (Madigan, ââ¬Å"Why Rising Rents Havenââ¬â¢t Pumped Up Inflationâ⬠; Keely, Ark, Levanon, and Burbank 1-49). The designs are not just made to serve the purpose that the resultant product should serve, but they have a way of relating to nature, which makes them even more attractive for gardens. The customers also said that the deliveries were made within 24 hours apart from a few cases where there were explanations for the delays. The average rating of the designs was 4 out of five. The pricing strategy of the company is notably competitive. The company strives to offer the most affordable prices by reviewing the prices of their competitors. Given the fact that the company highly depends on innovation, they choose the lowest possible prices so that they can leave their potential customers and existing customers with no option but to buy their products. In a market that is highly competitive, this strategy has been effective given the fact that the global economic crisis have affected the price sensitivity of consumers in Plymouth (Kim & Mauborgne 2015, p. 187). Furthermore, the high number of players in the recent past means that the customers have higher bargaining power within this area. This implies that the consumers will always go for the most affordable products and services available in the market. With the lower prices the company has been able to cope with the companies that were more dominant and popular even before their existence. The strategy has b een effective in winning new customers and retaining the already existing ones. Given the fact that the business organisation is based in Plymouth, the most appropriate way through which the products can get to the customers is by road.
